Private hire driver MIKE PRESSWELL is 56 and lives in Fareham. He’s DJ and promoter for Gosport Soul Club, a monthly Northern Soul and Motown night at Thorngate Halls. The next event is Friday (7.30am-midnight, £5).

• What would be your ideal weekend destination?

We went to Whitby last July for a Northern Soul weekend and had a brilliant time, so we are going again this year. The atmosphere, the music and the general camaraderie of the whole event made it perfect.

• Not counting your loved ones, who would be your dream companion?

I would love to spend time with not one person but three – the songwriting team of Holland, Dozier, and Holland. These guys are behind the majority of hits that came out of Motown in the 1960s and 70s and their energy and creativity would be something to behold.

• What music would you take with you?

It would have to be Northern Soul. I have over 2,000 tunes on my iPod which I play constantly in my car. And I am constantly finding new songs which I hadn’t heard before from different soul groups on Facebook.

• What about something to read?

I tend to read biographies or autobiographies of sports stars or books relating to soul music. I always have a book in my car. At present I am reading Sweet Soul Music.

• What would be your ultimate way to relax?

I work seven days a week most of the time, so when I go away I usually do nothing at all. Just lazing by the beach all day and then having a lovely meal in a beachfront restaurant.

• If money were no object, which shop would you head for?

The nearest Aston Martin showroom to buy the best in British sports cars and then a Bentley.

• What’s your all-time favourite film?

Goodfellas. Those old-time gangster movies really hit the spot for me. The clothes and the style of the mobsters captures my imagination, although it’s probably far removed from the truth but that’s what a good film is, an escape.

• We’re buying the drinks tonight. What’s your poison?

Either a pint of bitter or vodka and lemonade.

• What are you doing this weekend?

As it is Valentine’s weekend, we will be going out for a nice meal. I will also be preparing for my next Soul Night at Thorngate Halls on Friday.

• What’s a favourite local destination for a weekend day out?

It has to be Fratton Park where I have been a loyal supporter for 44 years. To finish the day off, I would go to my friend Martin Jackson’s club Soultime in Albert Road.
