Glam rock comes to life at The Mayflower this month as 20th Century Boy, a musical inspired by the life of T-Rex frontman Marc Bolan, hits the stage at the Southampton theatre.
The show is directed and choreographed by Gary Lloyd (Thriller Live, Fame)and features 24 of Marc Bolan and T-Rex’s best-known hits including Ride A White Swan, I Love To Boogie and Get It On.
West End and musical theatre star Warren Sollars, whose previous credits include Mamma Mia! and From Here To Eternity, leads the cast playing glam rock legend Marc and will be joined by TV stars Sue Jenkins (Brookside, Coronation Street) and Luke Bailey (Waterloo Road, Casualty).
‘It’s an absolutely epic show,’ says Warren.
‘It’s Marc’s story but it’s also told through the eyes of Rowland his son, as he tries to find out what his dad was like.
‘It’s been a big task preparing for the role of Marc because he’s such a massive icon.
‘I’ve listened to his music every day, read books and watched a lot of documentaries, interviews and YouTube clips just trying to get as much information as I could.
‘When playing guitar he used to go wild and there are a lot of head flicks which I really like.
‘Marc used to bounce around the stage a lot and as a dancer myself it’s nice when you get to use movement in a different way.’
20th Century Boy rocks out at The Mayflower from Tuesday until Saturday May 10 at 7.30 pm with a matinee at 4pm and evening performance at 8pm on Saturday. Tickets: £15–£32.
