When did you last go away and where did you go?
I try to learn a few new songs each month, and doing it properly can take a long time.Pete Salero
We haven’t been away on holiday since 2002 when we went to Italy on the Orient Express. We went to Venice. We spent 30 hours on a train. It was fantastic. We went to St Mark’s Square, all around, it was very nice.
When did you last go to the theatre and what did you see?
About a month ago we went to a 60s night at Ferneham Hall. We’re going there again to see the Manfreds. That’s the kind of music I sing and that’s what I love.
What was the last book you read?
I’ve read The Rats, and a few other James Herbert novels. I don’t read many books nowadays, I’m more into crosswords. They help keep my brain going.
What’s your favourite way to relax?
Singing. I have got to remember a repertoire of 120 songs. I try to learn a few new songs each month, and doing it properly can take a long time. At the moment I’m learning a few Billy Fury songs (pictured). I’ve got a studio in the garage for my music with recorders and speakers. I started singing after I had a heart attack and had trouble breathing. I started going around old people’s homes to practice, and since then I’ve also sung at the Portsmouth Guildhall in front of 500 people.
What’s your favourite dish?
I’m on a diet at the moment, trying to lose 2st, so we’re eating a lot of fish and things like that. There are four of us doing it, trying to lose 8st between us. We’ve got a month left. It’s hard work, especially at my age.
Which celeb would you most like to spend a weekend with?
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. I think they’re fantastic. Especially with what Angelina is doing at the moment. She’s had a double mastectomy and is having her ovaries removed to prevent cancer. She’s a very good ambassador for America.
Do you have any hobbies?
Other than singing, it’s gardening. When we moved to our house there was one big tree in the middle of the back garden and we’ve planed a lot of flowers. We like to sit out there and relax with the birds.
Pete will perform at a charity music night at the Fareham Leisure Centre on Thursday, May 2.
