LETTER OF THE DAY: ‘Drug shooting galleries’ - good or bad?

Have your say

Singer Jolene Burns is 34 and lives in Portsmouth. She’s lead female vocalist in local bands Big Brother Soul and The Fliks who both play at Thorngate Halls in Gosport tonight in a special New Year’s Eve show.

What would be your ideal weekend destination?

Lapland. I’m obsessed with reindeer and snow (and everything Christmassy really).

Not counting your loved ones, who would be your dream companion?

Stephen Fry. He seems to like travelling and he is so interesting and always seems game for a laugh.

What music would you take with you?

Probably the Phil Spector Christmas album to listen to on the sleigh ride.

What about something to read?

Harry Potter, but If I had Stephen Fry with me, he could probably read it to me from memory (he reads the audio books), so I wouldn’t need a hard copy.

What would be your ultimate way to relax?

I live to relax (making-up for staying up until 4am way too often!).

If I am not asleep, you will probably find me in the garden with my ‘city chickens’. I keep seven rare breed chickens in the back yard, and I could talk about them all day (but I won’t).

If money were no object, which shop would you head for?

The music shop for another tambourine, the pet shop for a bearded dragon, or Swarovski – I adore shiny things.

What’s your all-time favourite film?

Harry Potter (all of them), but I’ll take The Philosophers Stone, if I had to choose, because I’ll never get tired of seeing little Harry, Ron and Hermione.

We’re buying the drinks tonight. What’s your poison?

Anything that comes in a bottle. I can hold it in my hand while pulling wild ‘shapes’ and dancing really badly out on the floor.

What are you doing this weekend?

I’ll be playing Motown and soul music at Thorngate Halls in Gosport with Big Brother Soul and The Fliks for a New Year’s Eve show.

I love a good party, and this will be a fabulous night.

What’s a favourite local

destination for a weekend day out?

Gunwharf is great. I do like to go down there to the cinema, and I really can’t say no to the chocolate-dipped marshmallow stall (yummy).

New Year’s Eve at the Theatre is run by the Gosport Soul Club from 7.30pm to 1am tonight. Tickets cost £15 from 07812374955.
