Women-only running group will help prepare beginners for city’s charity race

Thousands of women will pound the pavements of Portsmouth when they take part in the Race for Life this July.

But if you’re one of those who signed up and then realised you’d not run since school, a new women-only group could come to your rescue.

Hilsea’s Alexandra Sports store has devised a 10-week running course for beginners. Fitness instructor Tiffany Eneas will lead the sessions and says it’s the perfect chance for those taking part in Race for Life to get themselves ready for the big event.

There are two one-hour sessions to choose from – a 6pm group starting on Monday May 14 and a 9.30am group starting on Thursday May 17.

Each session starts and finishes at Alexandra Sports in Gladys Avenue, with refreshments on offer at the end. The course costs £25.

‘They’ll be with like-minded people and can come along in their leggings and T-shirts and just give it a try,’ says Tiffany.

‘It’s predominantly aimed at beginners. We want to encourage more people to run and get themselves fit.’

Tiffany runs two women-only running groups of her own, with a Tuesday session at 9.30am in Horndean and a Wednesday session at 9.30am in Petersfield. Enrolment for the new 10-week Horndean group takes place on April 17 with the first run on April 24. Enrolment for the Petersfield sessions takes place on April 18, with the first run on April 25.
