Youngsters had a really cool time skating and met former England rugby player and TV star Kyran Bracken to celebrate the opening of Gunwharf Quays’ ice rink.
The Year 3 children from Portsmouth Grammar School had fun trying to stay upright on their blades and skating with Kyran, the winner of the 2007 series of ITV’s Dancing On Ice.
Jason Ashcroft, deputy head of Portsmouth Grammar Junior School, said the children particularly enjoyed the penguin scooter aids available at the rink.
The 60ft by 60ft ice rink in the Plaza will be at Gunwharf Quays until January 6. As well as the penguin scooter aids for children, there are coaching sessions for those who want to perfect their skating skills.
There are also fixed classes every Thursday morning from 11am-1pm or visitors can book the sessions through the Gunwharf Quays website and arrange a time that suits.
Gunwharf Quays is holding a 1970s inspired skating event every Friday (7pm-9pm) until January 4. There will even be prizes for the best 1970s retro outfit as well extra lighting and disco music to add to the atmosphere.
