To the manor born

Have your say

Mark Lowes, the site manager at the Bellway Homes’ Guardians’ Gate development in Portsmouth had the very strange experience of building some new homes on the spot where he was born!

‘This was the site of the old St Mary’s Hospital and I was able to identify the exact area the Guernsey Ward occupied which was where I was born,’ says Mark. ‘It was quite nostalgic for me and it is now great to see those homes completed. I have naturally had a strong affinity to Guardians’ Gate and I am really pleased it has been so successful.’

The site was acquired by Bellway Homes from Portsmouth Hospital Trust when the old buildings and facilities on the site were no longer needed because of the completion of Queen Alexandra Hospital.

The development is now drawing to a close but there is still time for purchasers to buy a new home that has the added bonus of a garage or parking, something which can be rare in close-to- city-centre locations.

The four-bedroom Christie house style is currently available with prices starting from £354,995.

This is a detached family home where on the ground floor the hallway runs between the two main living areas. The living room has a dual aspect and feature bay window.

A range of integrated, stainless steel appliances are to be enjoyed in the open-plan kitchen dining area including a fridge/freezer, electric oven and gas hob. A useful utility room, storage cupboard and cloakroom complete this level.

On the first floor there are three double bedrooms and one single. Bedroom three has a dual aspect, while the main bedroom has an en-suite shower room and fitted wardrobes. A modern family bathroom serves bedrooms two, three and four.

If you do not have a property to sell the government backed initiative Help to Buy has been used by a number of purchasers and is still available.

Those who have used the scheme have often been pleasantly surprised to be able to buy a larger home than they had thought would be the case.

The sales centre is open Friday to Wednesday from 10am-5pm and late night until 7pm on Thursday or call (023) 9281 6004.
