A VOLUNTEER group for young people have won £9,700 in Big Lottery Funding.

Loud & Proud in Gosport and Fareham was awarded the money as part of a scheme set up by the National Lottery that awards millions of pounds to good causes.

The 19 young volunteers made up of 16 to 25-year-olds get involved in a wide range of events, from fundraising for local projects, to raising awareness for causes.

The group’s win will be spent on a number of activities, including a drama masterclass at Groundlings Theatre.

Loud & Proud co-ordinator Nicola Ure said: ‘It’s lovely to see all their hard work being recognised as we are solely dependant on people helping us to help them, and having this money means we can now give something back to them, instead of the other way around.

‘We plan to celebrate on Friday at a black tie awards ceremony we arranged for the volunteers where they get given certificates for all their hard work and dedication to volunteer work.’
