THE former Lord Mayor of Portsmouth is celebrating after raising £20,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society during his mayoral year.
Cllr Frank Jonas met members of the charity to present the cheque.
He said: ‘It was just fantastic. The people of Portsmouth turned up trumps, especially the schoolchildren.
‘If I had to single out one school it would be Mayfield, which made it its charity of the year.
‘You couldn’t have asked for anything more.’
He said that raising money for Alzheimer’s charities is important to him.
‘My mother ended up with it before she died,’ he said.
‘Most people will come to some form of connection with it with a relative or a friend.’
He added: ‘What they are doing and the support they are giving to people is just brilliant.’
