20km dog walk will raisefunds for charities globally

For the fourth year running, the event is being organised by Karen Gittoes.

This year she is aiming to beat the previous year’s total and raise around £3,000 for both stray and abandoned dogs.

The 20km walk will take place on Sunday, March 13, starting in Sarisbury Green, next to the tennis courts, at 9.45am.

It will be a round walk, taking in scenery from the River Hamble and Holly Hill woodland park.

There will also be a lunch stop at the Ferryman pub in Warsash, which has kindly donated its function room for the break.

It then ends back at Sarisbury Green at about 4pm.

The charities that are being supported this year include K-9 Angels, a UK charity that helps dogs all over the world, providing direct links between rescuers around the globe and prospective dog adopters in the UK.

The second charity is Animals Asia, a charity based in China and Vietnam that is working to end the trade of dogs and cats for food.

It is also working to rescue bears and end abusive behaviour in zoos.

The funds will also go towards Pat the Dogs, a Thai charity which cares for survivors of the dog meat trade and stray, neglected and abused dogs.

The walk is also raising money for Nanu Madalina, a Romanian volunteer who rescues stray and abandoned dogs – among other animals – and cares for them, also finding them foster and permanent homes.

Everyone is welcome to attend with their dogs.

Attendees will receive goody bags.
