Drivers faced delays of up to 45 minutes on the M27 this morning after an accident involving cars and a lorry.

Two lanes westbound were blocked between junctions 12 and 11 after the accident, which happened at around 7.20am.

By 8am reports said that the carriageway had been cleared but long queues remained.

Traffic is now beginning to move as normal again after the accident.

A South Central Ambulance Service spokesman said ‘a few’ cars and a lorry were involved.

An ambulance came across the accident this morning and stopped to help.

He added that there were no injuries.

Hampshire Constabulary said they were called at 7.21am to a collision involving two Volkswagen cars.

It said the cars were moved onto the hard shoulder while waiting to be recovered.

It comes after a six-vehicle crash caused long delays on the same stretch of road yesterday.

Fareham Borough Council leader Sean Woodward said this morning that most crashes on the routes were caused by careless driving rather than car faults.
