It was a right Royle shindig, with more than 200 people attending.
Cosham Baptist Church's variety performance Christmas event saw talented volunteers putting on a range of shows for the audience, 'controlled' by the church's sofa-bound take on the Royle Family TV show.
The audience had to pick their way through building work to get to their seats, as the church is getting ready to open as a Children's Centre in the new year.
The work is being paid for by the church and Portsmouth City Council, so the variety show was put on purely for fun.
'Once the audience were in their seats they seemed to enjoy it,' said the church's Sue Jones.
'The whole performance went very well.
'It was a full house, more than 200 people, and a lot of those were faces from outside of the church, so people must have seen the leaflets we dropped through their doors, and the piece in The News last week.'
