Older members of the community in Gosport are set to have their voices heard after an Older Persons Champion was appointed.

In a newly formed organisation by Gosport Borough Council, Councillor Bob Forder has been appointed as the new champion.

He will be working independently from the council, giving older people the opportunity to have their views aired and heard on both local and national issues.

Councillor Bob Forder, said: 'It's a great honour for me to take on the role, and I look forward to working closely with the forum chairman and other older persons' organisations.

'I aim to serve the older people of Gosport by promoting positive images in order to combat age discrimination and to ensure that older persons' issues remain in the forefront as far as the Council is concerned.'

The forum will have its official launch next Spring.
