A1 closed in both directions after major accident

Two lorries, a van and several other vehicles have collided and closed the A1 both ways between Beckingham Road and A46 near Newark.

The accident happened on the northbound side, but one of the lorries has overturned across the central reservation.

The Lincs and Notts air ambulance is on the scene. Police have said the road is likely to remain closed for many hours causing long delays for commuters on one of the country’s mains arterial routes.

Detour in operation - via Beckingham Road through Coddington, and the A17 towards Newark Showground.
