ACTION has been promised to stop a promenade from crumbling into the sea.
Fareham Borough Council’s leader Sean Woodward said the area at Hill Head was under close scrutiny by the Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership, on behalf of the authority, following recent serious damage to the sea defence, which led to the path being closed to the public.
He said: ‘The council is working with contractors to consider options to resolve this issue.
‘At this early stage it is not clear when the promenade will be reopened, but we are working to make this happen as soon as possible once potential health and safety risks to the public have been managed.’
The council carried out repairs in this area in 2005 and 2015, although Cllr Woodward said the section of sea defences had been ‘troublesome’ for many years and had fundamentally ‘reached the end of its working life’.
He said coastal defences in Fareham would be reviewed in the New Year and that Hill Head would be progressed in the context of this wider review.
