ALAN MAK: Backing the economy is my top priority
For those thinking of starting the new year by finding a new job, things just became easier thanks to a new Havant business that’s making job hunting easier through new technology, especially for young people.
GetMyFirstJob, based at Langstone Technology Park, specialises in finding school, college and university leavers a first job.

Hide AdThis social enterprise has thousands of jobs and apprenticeships advertised on it site, and helps young people launch a career not just find work.
That goal is something I share, and I am especially supportive of apprenticeships which are continuing to soar in popularity across Havant.
This is especially true for teenagers who have a clear career path in mind, saving money on university while also getting experience in the workplace.
We now have more local firms than ever with vacancies and that is matched by our unemployment level which is the lowest it has been for more than 10 years.

Hide AdMy Havant Jobs, Apprenticeships and Careers Fair, backed by The News, will return after the success of our first event last year.
It will take place on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Havant Leisure Centre, between 10am and 4pm.
Admission is free. Everyone is welcome.
The fair will once again offer hundreds of jobs and apprenticeships from both local and national employers, ranging from starter level roles to those with more experience.
This year we are adding a focus on building careers to the event, not just providing jobs.

Last year we had more than 550 jobs on offer and 55 exhibitors, which I aim to double in 2017.
So, if you are looking for a new job, an apprenticeship or a career change, put the date in your diary.
If you are an employer looking to exhibit at the Fair, please contact me by e-mailing [email protected].

Hide AdBacking the local economy, and making a tangible difference to residents’ lives as your local MP, is my top priority.
My jobs fair is an important and well-supported community event I launched last year.
With your support, we can make it even bigger and better in 2017.
Thanks to residents for your continuing support.
