AN AUTOMATIC fire alarm inside a building was set off because of a bin fire outside.

The alarm sounded in Telephone Exchange, Derby Road, North End, Portsmouth, at 12.15pm yesterday.

One crew from Cosham fire station was sent to the scene.

Firefighters used one hose reel to put out the blaze.

Firefighter Martin Earl said: ‘The fire was in a metal bin outside, but the smoke had gone into the building, setting off the alarm.’

No-one was injured.
