All geared up for a bike party

Havant council leader will retire from politics after local elections

Cycling enthusiasts took their trusty bicycles along to a party dedicated to everything about the bike.

Portsmouth Cycle Forum, Healthy Pompey, and community wardens were all on hand to give advice on how to care for bikes as well as fun games and quizzes.

Portsmouth police were also at Eastney Community Centre, in Bransbury Park, to stamp people's bikes so they can be recovered if they get stolen.

And 'Bike buddies' from the new Eastney Family Bike Club were there to speak to visitors throughout the day.

Hilary Reed, from the bike club, said: 'I want to encourage more people of all generations, including grandparents such as myself, to enjoy the freedom, fun and adventures of cycling.

'It's the smart way from door to door around Portsmouth and a great way to see the world.'
