The allotment in Wickham Road suffered heavy damage during the storm at the weekend.

But the next day, a group of young people were found causing damage to the site by an allotment holder, leaving plot owners shocked.

Tom Davies is a member of the Fareham Allotment Association. The 23-year-old, from Portchester Road, said: ‘Storm Katie caused a lot of damage. Then the next day some kids broke in. It’s the Easter holidays so there are a lot of bored kids about.

‘They smashed up a lot of things. So if people hadn’t been in the day between, they wouldn’t know if the damage had been caused by the storm or the kids.

He added: ‘My plot was completely wrecked. Things were scattered everywhere. Sheds had blown over. It looked like a bomb had gone off.

‘It was a surprise and a shock. I didn’t realise how bad the storm was and, combined with what the kids had done, it was a right mess.’

Tom said it’s a popular allotment.

‘So many people here have had their plots for decades,’ he said.

‘It’s a huge hobby for some people. They had spent hours there and spend a lot of time growing food for people.

‘It’s something a lot of people are incredibly passionate about.’

The area the youths were seen on was around plots 64 to 89 near Wickham Road.

Anyone who has any information on the damage is asked to call PC 24390 Darren Graham at Fareham police station on 101, selecting option 4.
