A semi-detached house in Portsmouth went under the auctioneer’s hammer for £175,000 in a bidding war.The three-bedroom property at 81 Cheltenham Road in Paulsgrove, pictured, went for £55,000 above the freehold guide price and was among 142 lots being sold by Clive Emson Auctioneers.

Rob Marchant, auctioneer, said: ‘We had a bidding war in the sales room, with the final bid of £175,000, which was £55,000 above estimate.‘As previously mentioned, this residential property is in need of a programme of substantial upgrading and refurbishment and we were instructed by the trustees to sell.‘It is considered worthy of the improvements required and is suited to either owner occupation or as a part of a lettings portfolio – Queen Alexandra Hospital is just half a mile away.’A site of just over half an acre at Old East Hoe Down, Green Lane, Hambledon, near Waterlooville, went for £155,000, which was £65,000 more than the guide price.

Rob said: ‘There was also keen interest in this lovely slice of Hampshire, hence a bidding war.
