Artefacts wanted for Gosport museum's collection

PEOPLE are being urged to raid their homes for old photographs and memorabilia for a project.

The Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower in Gosport, is looking to bring to life the stories of men and women from the area who worked at the 18th century Royal Navy Armament Depot, at Priddy’s Hard, which is now the site of the museum.

Called Priddy’s People, the collection of artefacts will feature as part of a free street party event held in the museum grounds on May 2.

Community outreach officer at the museum Jo Valentine said: ‘We use handling artefacts in a number of ways with community and school groups at our museum.

‘They could be a starting point for a discussion, inspiration for an artwork and simply help tell the story of the workers at Priddy’s Hard.’

Drop-in sessions for people to bring in items and photographs of Priddy’s Hard have been organised for February 16 between 11am and 1pm and April 7 between 2.15pm and 4.15pm.
