THE famous statue on top of Southsea’s Kings Theatre has been dressed in the Union Jack flag to celebrate the start of the Olympics.
Firefighters climbed on to the roof of the theatre to dress the statue, Lady Aurora. Named after the Roman goddess of dawn, the statue was placed on the roof 105 years ago.
Southsea firefighter Paul Waghorn said: ‘I was more than happy to help the Kings Theatre show its support for the Olympics. The statue looks very striking from a distance and is noticeable from most directions as you come into the area.’
Sandra Smith, booking and promotions manager at the Kings Theatre, said: ‘The theatre wanted to show its support for the London Olympics and what better way than to show it by dressing its symbolic Lady Aurora in our country’s colours?’
