POLICE have confirmed they are increasing patrols after a spate of break-ins and criminal damage at an allotments in Portsmouth.

There have been eight incidents at the Horsea Lane Allotments from October 27 to November 5.

On Sunday night vandals broke into the site and set the shed alight – causing the allotment holder to lose all his tools and ruin his plot.

Police have confirmed a meeting took place today with Portsmouth City Council to ‘discuss crime prevention’.

New gates will also be put in to keep vandals out and police will step up patrols in the area. A CCTV van will also be put up at the site.

One angry resident said: ‘Vandals and hooligans cannot go around ruining people’s hard work because they are morons.’

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Call 101.
