BADGERS in Hampshire could be vaccinated in an attempt to halt the spread of bovine tuberculosis (TB) in cattle.

The government has said two four-year pilot schemes in Gloucestershire and Somerset to cull the animals will take place.

It also wants to create a ‘buffer zone’ in nearby counties, including Hampshire, where badgers will be vaccinated against the disease.

Under the scheme - which will target counties in a strip down the middle of England, support will be available, including funding of up to half of the long-term costs for vaccinating.
