FIREFIGHTERS have urged people to put ash and disposable barbecues in the correct bins after a series of small fires on Saturday evening.

A Southsea Fire Station spokesman said there were three fires in yellow refuse bins on Southsea Common and at Canoe Lake after people put barbecue waste in them.

He said people should only use the red and black bins for ash and used barbecues.

‘With summer coming up people have a lot of barbecues, but they need to make sure they dispose of them properly.

‘We would advise people to only use those black and red bins.’
