SOUTHSEA cyclists took to the roads to show their support to the relief efforts in Japan.

Over 70 bikes made the seven-mile journey and raised over £350 to send to the British Red Cross – currently in Japan helping with the aftermath of the recent earthquake and tsunami.

One of the organisers, Cass Gowing, 21, from Southsea, said: ‘It’s terrifying that so many people are still missing in Japan – it’s the equivalent of the whole of Southsea being washed away.

‘We thought this would be a great way to bring the community together for a great cause and we knew we could rely them, especially when it involves bicycles!’
