AFRICAN drumming and dancing workshops were some of the exciting activities on offer as Portsmouth celebrated Black History Month.

The Portsmouth Friendship Centre in Elm Grove, Southsea, was filled to capacity as visitors indulged in traditional Sudanese and Indian food, and tried their hand at Afro-Caribbean cooking classes.

Iwona Defer, equalities and customer research officer at Portsmouth City Council, said: ‘We had a fantastic attendance-

‘The purpose of the event was the celebrate African and Caribbean history and culture and I believe the people that attended came away knowing more. It certainly raised awareness of people’s understanding of African and Caribbean culture.’
