FIREFIGHTERS were called to tackle a blaze at a derelict block of flats.

Two crews from Gosport, two from Fareham, a crew from Portchester, an aerial ladder and the specialist equipment unit from Cosham attended the fire at the six-storey block in Nimrod Drive, Rowner, Gosport.

About 35 firefighters spent an hour tackling the blaze after being called out shortly before 9.30pm on Saturday. A derelict first-floor maisonette was severely damaged but firefighters said the flats were empty. No-one was hurt and no-one had to be rescued.
