The 56-year-old said: ‘We’re delighted to have been chosen to receive the generous donation. We really appreciate it.

‘That sum of money is enough to pay for fuel for one of our bikes for a month or possibly two.’

SERV is the regional blood bike charity for Hampshire, providing a free out-of-hours courier service to NHS hospitals in the region.

The donation comes as part of a new grant scheme run by the union which aims to aid local charities that need support.

Gary Morgan, CEO of the Hampshire Credit Union, said: ‘We are impressed by the work that SERV Wessex undertakes and it is a worthy first recipient of our community grant.’
