A boat exploded in flames after an explosion on the River Hamble.

Lifeboatmen and firefighters were called as the vessel began to float towards other boats moored on the river last night.

Hamble lifeboatmen, who were on a training exercise nearby, were first on the scene of the drama at 8.30pm near the Rising Sun Pub.

The lifeboat crew attached a line to the craft to tow it to safely after establishing that no-one was on board.
