The road to this side of the wall was Flathouse Road and ran all the way from Portsea to Flathouse Quay, Rudmore.

The fence beside the bomb site was more for the protection of drunks walking home than for children harming themselves.
Below it is the same scene today showing flats on the site. Trees hide the dockyard wall and Flathouse Road.
The latter was blocked for security reasons many years ago and anyone wanting to reach Rudmore these days has to take the long way via Alfred Road and Market Way.
