Bowling club set to benefit from grant

A grant of £41,327 has been awarded by The Veolia Environmental Trust through the Landfill Communities Fund.

It will fund the creation of a new building that will house toilet and changing facilities for the club’s new artificial green at their Anglesey Road site.

The new green is ideal for older, younger and disabled players, and those using wheelchairs adapted for bowling. The new building will mean that people will be able to play bowls on the new green all year round.

The grant is one of 27 awarded by the board to community and environmental projects in England, with a grand total of more than £860,000.

Since 1997, they have awarded more than £11.2m to more than 280 projects in Hampshire.

The group will now start working with the club to finalise the project’s details, including its start date, so that it can begin as soon as possible.

Gosport Bowling Club’s funding manager, Rob Roberts, said: ‘The new green is approximately 80 metres away from the main clubhouse.

‘This new building will enable people to enjoy bowling on our great new green in comfort, whatever the weather.’

The executive director of The Veolia Environmental Trust, Paul Taylor, added: ‘The club must be congratulated on securing this grant.

‘We considered a record number of compliant applications during this round, so this project managed to succeed in a very competitive environment.

‘We look forward to seeing work beginning as soon as possible and are excited about the end result.’
