Boy, 11, rescued after clinging onto pier during high tides

A 11-year-old boy had to be rescued by lifeguards after getting stuck out at sea during high tides.

Portsmouth and Southsea Voluntary Lifeguards were called just before 4pm yesterday to reports of a boy clinging to the bottom of the pier at the outfall at Eastney.

Rescue teams were sent out in jet ski watercraft to find the boy, who was unable to swim back to shore against the strong currents.

The team were able to get to the child and took him back to the beach, where he was met by Portsmouth Coastguard and assessed him for any injuries.
