A BOYS’ brigade is looking to recruit more children and young people.

The 4th Portsmouth Boys’ Brigade wants to increase membership for their regular activities which include hiking, archery and a range of Duke of Edinburgh tasks.

Last weekend, the group went on a hike at Queen Elizabeth Country Park in Horndean.

The 11 to 13-year-olds walked up hills and through fields before setting up a tent and cooking their food.

Alex Bearne, lieutenant of the brigade, said: ‘Everyone had a great time.

‘After a slow start on the walk, their navigation skills grew leaps and bounds, with the boys learning compass and map skills throughout, while being tested by the officers and helpers keeping them on track. We are always looking to recruit more young people with new ways like using YouTube and a recruitment video.’

The group meets at North End Baptist Church on Wednesday evenings.
