Britain's newest infantry unit has come a long way in a year

SINCE forming almost exactly a year ago, 4thÂ Battalion, The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (4 PWRR) has come a long way.

Starting with a core team of a handful of troops, the battalion soon expanded '“Â faster than some had predicted. It now has about 250 troops at various stages of development, 4 PWRR's commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Ben Baker said.

The battalion is made of four companies based across Farnham, Edgware, Crawley and Cosham. A new centre has also opened in Southampton.

C Company is Portsmouth local unit, operating from the former Army Reserve Centre in Tudor Crescent.

Training is every Wednesday evening, with reserves expected to commit to at least one weekend a month to additional training.

On top of this, troops will undergo a two-week exercise, either in the UK or abroad.

The exercise in Denmark was the battalion's first overseas deployment since forming. It was also the first time soldiers from all four battalions came together.
