British sailors arrested in America during HMS Queen Elizabeth visit: Here's everything we know so far

Sources have told The News that six were arrested for being drunk and disorderly. Here's everything we know so far:

- HMS Queen Elizabeth left her home port of Portsmouth on August 18 for her maiden voyage to the US, ahead of trialling F-35B Lightning fighter jets.

- The Royal Navy carrier arrived at its first port of call in Mayport, Florida on Wednesday, September 5, after 18 days at sea.

- It is understood bar staff and business owners had not been warned about the carrier's arrival.

- Social media posts on Wednesday night, including one claiming to be run by a police officer in Florida, mentioned navy sailors were being kicked out of bars and had urinated from a balcony. 

- Jacksonville Beach Police Department confirmed arrests had been made, and a local jail said it was holding sailors on Friday afternoon.

- According to sources six were arrested for drunk and disorderly, with another arrest for trespass in a pub.

- Three of the six were also held over resisting arrest.

- The Royal Navy has said personnel were assisting police in the US.

- A Royal Navy spokeswoman said: '˜We can confirm that a number of naval personnel are assisting US police with their inquiries. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.'
