FIREFIGHTERS were called to a tower block to reports of a fire – only to find that somebody had burnt their dinner.

The fire crew from Southsea was called to Handsworth House, in Quinton Close, Southsea at 8pm yesterday.

On arrival the crew discovered they were not needed as the smoke was emanating from a charred supper.

Elsewhere, the Gosport fire crew was called to a paper recycling bank that had caught light in the Lee-on-the-Solent car park, in Marine Parade West at 7.20pm

Fareham’s crew was also called to put out a bonfire in Nashe Way at 9pm.
