All change at country park amid restructure

THE management of a publicly-funded country park will change as it looks to become self-sufficient.

For years councillors have met in Winchester on a committee to discuss the management of Staunton Country Park in Havant.

But the committee will no longer meet and new arrangements will be made for the management.

It was originally set up so that East Hampshire District Council, Havant Borough Council and Hampshire County Council would contribute to the operational costs of the park.

But East Hampshire announced it would no longer be providing a grant, which was just over £5,000 last year.

The county council will continue to provide £80,000, while Havant Borough Council will provide £10,789 this year.

Reserves of £135,000 will be taken forward and ring-fenced for Staunton.

The county council is spending about £13m across its parks to revamp facilities in a bid to making them financially self-sufficient.
