TRADE apprentices are being urged to put themselves forward to be crowned best in the country.

Screwfix is launching a competition to find and reward the best trade apprentice in the UK.

Builders and the next generation of electricians and plumbers can all enter for the chance to win a trade business pack worth £10,000 containing everything they need to set up on their own.

John Mewett, marketing director at Screwfix, said: ‘As a key supplier to the trade we believe it’s vital that we recognise and reward the future tradesmen across the UK as they really are the foundation of any community, ensuring homes and businesses are fit for purpose.’

The home improvement chain are looking for those that want to start their own business or act with professionalism on every job or have some great innovative product ideas.

No matter what the reason, trade apprentices from across the region are invited to enter – with finalists from around the UK going head to head, at Google HQ, to be named the best.

Mr Mewett added: ‘This competition has been created to give young apprentices a first step on the ladder in their career and give them the tools to help them to build a successful business.

This year’s winner will receive a business pack including a Google Nexus smart phone and tablet and a top of the range laptop, as well as £3,500 worth of Screwfix products.

They will also get up to £4,000 to spend on training courses to further enhance their career.
