AROUND £500,000 will be spent on a public arts programme for a huge new estate.

Winchester City Council and Havant Borough Council have announced they are working with consultants at Futurecity for Berewood, in Waterlooville.

Futurecity has led several arts projects, including the recently unveiled 78-metre Richard Wilson sculpture Slipstream at Heathrow’s new Terminal 2

Berewood’s developer Grainger will spend half a million pounds for public art during the construction period.

Councillor Kirk Phillips, chairman of West of Waterlooville Arts Advisory Panel, said: ‘The appointment of Futurecity was a unanimous decision by the interview panel.

‘We are pleased to be able to benefit from Futurecity’s extensive knowledge, experience and innovative approach.’

Hampshire artist Nicola Henshaw has been employed and will consult with residents and gather ideas.
