BAE Systems to support local businesses dedicated to helping Portsmouth

DEDICATED to investment in the community, a firm has told of why it is backing an annual fixture in the business calendar that's not to be missed.

BAE Systems, a sponsor of The News' Business Excellence Awards, has announced it will be sponsoring the Community Contribution category for the second year running.

With a large base in Portsmouth the company said it looks to support firms in the region.

A spokesman for BAE Systems said: '˜The News  Business Excellence Awards provides an ideal platform to highlight the efforts of local industry, their commitment and involvement in the community.

'˜By sponsoring the Community Contribution category we look to support those businesses dedicated to helping this area.

'˜BAE Systems strives to invest in the local communities where our employees live and work. 

'˜It supports organisations and events that promote study in the science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects, as well as those that preserve maritime heritage and support a modern Royal Navy.'

The black-tie awards  event, which highlights the amazing work of businesses small to large across the city , is being held in February at Portsmouth Guildhall.

It  will be the awards' 18th year . 

As well as acting as an ongoing sponsor of the annual event, BAE Systems staff have also sat on the judging panel to review local businesses and pick their favourites from the long list of nominees.  

The  company  spokesman added: '˜We recognise the growing importance of community investment and, as well as the benefits it brings to the local area, we view it as a key enabler of business success.'
