The shop, next door to Wilko on the outside of the Meridian Centre, sells end-of-stock clothes from the fashion retailer for prices starting from £5.

In its first hour of opening, dozens of people had been through the doors buying armfuls of clothes with the proceeds going to organisations mainly in Havant.

Ian Williams, chairman of Fatface Foundation, said: '˜The team worked incredibly hard to get the store open and the Meridian Centre have been really helpful as well.

'˜We have been pushing for this shop for the past five years so it is good to see it open.'

The stock in the store is not second-hand but end-of-line products Fatface cannot shift.

They have spent time in the sales and a decision was made to donate them to the Foundation store to clear.

Tops are priced at £5 while dresses and jumpers are £15. Men's clothes have a similar discount.

This is the first branch to be set up and Havant was chosen as Fatface was founded in the town.

Ian added: '˜These items need to be moved quickly and that's why we have them.

'˜As they sell at these incredible prices, we will have room to bring new stock in.

'˜That means we could have fresh items every couple weeks.'

Ian said the opening of the store went ahead better than expected and he was pleased with the numbers.

'˜I don't think we were quite prepared for it but we did hope it would be busy,' he said.

'˜It is really good to see. We had customers who said their friends had been there in the morning so they were coming down to take a look, that was within the first hour.'

Proceeds from Fatface Foundation will be donated to Step by Step and Park Community School.

Step by Step supports young adults, some of who are homeless, and gives them support. The shop will help offer them retail and management experience.

Meanwhile, Park Community School will use money for its Munch scheme which feeds its pupils during term and school holidays.

Fatface Foundation is open Monday to Friday 9.30am and 5pm and Saturday 10am until 4.30pm.
