WINNING at The News’ Business Excellence Awards has boosted morale and sales at a light manufacturer.
Gemma Lighting, which makes LED and solar lights at its factory in Farlington, won Team of the Year at the awards earlier this year.
They then went on to win Team of the Year at the JP Southern Business Awards in Brighton, run by Johnston Press, which owns The News.
Managing director Craig Manuel said the win had brought benefits to the firm.
He said: ‘It has given the sales team a boost and boosted morale. Customers like to see that we have won awards and it is a great way to get your name out there.
‘It’s also a great night out. You get to meet other businesses and your team also gets a night out.’
The awards are due to be held on Friday, February 1 at Portsmouth Guildhall. Awards will be given out across 16 categories. Applications are currently open.
Gemma Lighting has sponsored the Green Business of the Year award.
Craig said: ‘It is good to give something back to the community. We have benefited from the awards, so it is nice to be able to help others too.
‘If no one sponsors, then the awards would not be able to happen so it's important to show our support.
‘The category fits in with our core values, to make environmentally-friendly products. Everything we do is about being as environmentally-friendly as possible. It will be good to see what other companies are doing.’
Gemma Lighting has seen business growth over the past year, with the firm hiring 11 new staff members, increasing its sales by 60 per cent and expanded its factory with an extension, as well as increasing its overseas sales.
There are still two categories available to sponsor. For more email firstname.lastname@example.org
