A COACH company has offered its services to clean a minibus that helps the community.

Lucketts Travel, in Fareham, is helping the Meon Valley Lions Club to keep its free bus service squeaky clean.

John Sharpe, a volunteer at Lions club, approached Lucketts Travel to see if it could use the firm’s industrial bus washer at the Broadcut depot.

Director Ian Luckett agreed to the request.

He said: ‘The Lions do a great job in the community and we were really pleased to be able to support them in this way to help them carry out their valuable work.’

The Lions have also had help in previous years from the Southern Co-operative at Wickham and its community card scheme.

The company helped the charity invest in a new minibus which has been put to great use on the roads ever since.

Other organisations such as the Swanmore Friday Club, Carers Together, Open Sight and Wickham Lunch Club all benefit from the service.

In total, the Lions Club completes around 1,200 passenger journeys and covers more than 5,000 miles each year.

The minibus often travels down muddy lanes, meaning the volunteers spend as much time cleaning the bus as they do driving it.

Mr Sharpe said that with the help from Lucketts Travel, the volunteers can spend more time working in the community helping worthwhile causes.

He said: ‘The bus wash facility is saving our members dozens of hours each month. We are grateful.’
