MORE than 880 staff a month were trained in vital first aid skills with St John Ambulance at Hampshire businesses last year, according to figures released by the first aid charity.
St John Ambulance, which raises funds for its charity work by providing commercial first aid courses, trained 10,671 people at its centres in Alton, Andover, Basingstoke, Fareham, Farnborough, Havant, Lymington, Portsmouth, Southampton and Winchester – up from 10,448 in 2014.
Deborah Adwent, workplace training manager, said: ‘Our figures show that businesses in Hampshire are committed to meeting their first aid responsibilities and ensuring the health and wellbeing of their staff and customers. We hope that even more businesses step forward to train their staff this year.
‘We provide quality training, and many of the people we teach on a workplace first aid course go on to use their skills to save lives at home. First aid emergencies really can happen at any time, anywhere.’
