A FARMING union has welcomed a supermarket’s commitment to paying farmers more for their milk.

The National Farmers’ Union, based in Petersfield, has said it is a big leap forward after Asda pledged to pay 28p per litre for its liquid milk range.

It will pay 28p per litre to processor Arla, which will then be expected to pass this onto its British farmer suppliers.

NFU president Meurig Raymond said: ‘We are pleased that Asda has moved to support farmers in their hour of need.’
