Decision over bid to get Portsmouth pub’s licence back

A DECISION was set to be made today over whether a Portsmouth pub should get its licence back.

Portsmouth City Council was to determine whether The British Queen, in Buckland, should allow to reopen, sell booze and provide live music.

The application was brought forward by Yian and Geraldine Jones, who live at the premises.

Four letters of disapproval were submitted to the council about the pub originally wanting alcohol to be served until midnight and for music to be played until 12.30am.

But the bid was amended to allow alcohol sales until 11pm and music until 11.30pm following discussion with the police.

The pub’s previous tenants, Tina and David Place, gave up the licence last summer following a row with the owners over repairs that needed carrying out to the building.
