STUDENTS took part in the National Science and Engineering Week at a software company’s headquarters.

A group of Year 10 students from Henry Cort Community College, in Fareham, went to IBM’s annual Blue Fusion event hosted at Europe’s largest software development facility, at IBM headquarters in Winchester.

Quick thinking, scientific knowledge and teamwork were required to complete a number of activities, designed to inspire the 14 to 16-year olds. The trip involved taking part in IT coding and developing different software according to a set criterion.

Science teacher Prish Nalliah said the students enjoyed it and were ‘totally engaged and thrived in their interest’.

Students had to complete eight IT-based tasks and discovered how a 3D printer functions, and saw how it is used in numerous industries.

Phil Munday, executive principal, said: ‘We welcome opportunities that take our students beyond the classroom and help to prepare them for lifelong learning. The event was superb.’
