A Fareham man has been shortlisted for a national award for his management of a new build in Portsmouth.

Nick Butler is among seven construction managers who have been put forward for the Construction Manager of the Year Awards.

Nick, who works for BAM Construction, has been recognised for his leadership on the Somers Town Central development.

The new community hub houses facilities including a doctors’ surgery, a dental practice, a sports hall and a housing office to bring together two previously separated communities.

Nick said: ‘I am immensely proud that my team was able to handle the technical and design pressure and the constant liaison needs with the community to make this project a reality.

‘To deliver the scheme seven weeks a head of schedule is an exemplary safety record.’

The construction of the hub was well publicised and Portsmouth City Council had every faith in Nick and his team that they could carry out the development with minimal disruption.

In fact the product was managed a way which meant none of the surrounding roads had to be closed during construction.

Development manager for the council, Kevin Hudson said: ‘The potential to cause significant disruption was enormous.

‘Nick consistently projected an aura of calm efficiency, good humour and professionalism.

‘He has enormous pride in his work and team which is reflected through the diligence and care he extends to the project.’
