GETTING your name out there in the international world is a sign of a successful business.

And that’s why accounting firm Smith & Williamson has come forward to sponsor the International Development award at next year’s Business Awards.

The News Business Excellence Awards have officially been launched and now we are encouraging businesses across the area to get their entries in.

Paul Duckworth is a tax partner at Smith & Williamson. He said the firm was keen to show support for the awards.

‘We’re based on the south coast and we want businesses to do well,’ he said.

‘More and more of our clients are looking to go overseas to do international activities.

‘This will raise the profile of companies internationally.

‘We are trying to bring companies together to share experience and to help them to do better overseas.’

And Mr Duckworth said business awards are important for companies.

‘I think business awards are a great thing to have,’ he said.

‘It’s nice to recognise a key city on the south coast. Portsmouth is a major city employer.

‘There is a lot going on. It’s key to reward people and to recognise what local companies are doing.’

And he said it’s a good morale booster for staff if they know the firm they are working for is successful and is being recognised.

‘It helps the staff knowing that this business is doing well and they have won an award,’ he said.

‘It makes them feel proud to work at the firm.

‘It’s nice to meet people in similar situations.

‘It’s a way of bringing a lot of people together to celebrate success.

‘And we should celebrate success. We shouldn’t be embarrassed if we have done well.

‘It’s hard work but we should celebrate it.’

There are 16 categories, covering all types of businesses including Innovation of the Year, Employer of the Year and Team of the Year, as well as the Overall Business of the Year.

All nominees will be invited to a ceremony at Portsmouth Guildhall on Friday, February 12, 2016.
